This policy applies to all users of BakeReach, including sellers and buyers, across all markets where BakeReach operates. It covers all our website at bakereach.ng, bakereach.com.ng and bakereach.app, our waitlist, and any future BakeReach products and services.

BakeReach is an AI-native marketplace connecting talented home bakers with customers. BakeReach operates under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the United States of America.

2. What information we collect

Information you provide directly

When you join the BakeReach waitlist or create an account, we collect:

Name — your full name as provided
Phone number — including country code, used for WhatsApp and SMS communications
Email address — used for confirmation and platform communications
Location information — your country and city, derived from the country code you select

Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, we automatically collect:

IP address — used to detect your approximate location and serve the correct market experience
Browser and device information — used to ensure the site displays correctly
Pages visited and time spent — used to improve the user experience

Information we do not collect

We do not collect payment card details, government identification numbers, or any sensitive personal data as defined under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) at the waitlist stage.

3. Why we collect your information

We collect and process your personal information for the following purposes:

Waitlist management — to keep a record of your interest in BakeReach and contact you when we are ready to onboard sellers in your city
Communication — to send you a confirmation of your waitlist registration and updates about BakeReach
Market detection — to determine which BakeReach market is relevant to you and serve the appropriate experience
Platform improvement — to understand how people interact with our website and improve it
Legal compliance — to meet our obligations under applicable law

We do not use your personal information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects without human oversight.

4. Legal basis for processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

Consent — by submitting the waitlist form, you consent to us contacting you about BakeReach. You may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us at hello@bakereach.app or clicking unsubscribe in any email we send you.
Legitimate interests — we have a legitimate interest in understanding how our website is used and improving it for all users.
Legal obligation — where we are required to process data to comply with applicable law.

5. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

We share your information with service providers who help us operate BakeReach, including providers of data storage, email delivery, SMS delivery, and marketing automation services. These providers are contractually bound to process your data only as directed by BakeReach and to maintain appropriate security standards.

We may disclose your information where required by law, court order, or regulatory authority, including the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), or any other competent authority.

6. International data transfers

BakeReach operates across Nigeria and the United States. Your personal data may be stored and processed outside of Nigeria, including in the United States. Where we transfer personal data outside Nigeria, we take appropriate steps to ensure your data receives adequate protection consistent with the requirements of the NDPR.

By submitting your information to BakeReach, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including Nigeria and the United States.

7. How long we keep your information

We retain your waitlist information for 12 months from the date of signup, or until you request deletion, whichever comes first. If you are onboarded as a BakeReach seller or buyer, your data will be retained for the duration of your relationship with BakeReach and for a period thereafter as required by applicable law.

We may retain certain information for longer periods where required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as resolving disputes or enforcing our agreements.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Right to access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements
Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data
Right to data portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
Right to withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

9. Cookies and tracking

Our website uses minimal tracking. We use your IP address to detect your approximate location and serve the correct market experience. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels for advertising purposes.

Confirmation emails sent by BakeReach may include standard email open tracking to help us understand whether our communications are reaching you effectively. You can disable image loading in your email client to prevent this tracking.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, destruction, or alteration. These measures include encrypted data transmission, access controls, and regular security reviews.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's privacy

BakeReach is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us at hello@bakereach.app and we will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email. Your continued use of BakeReach after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Governing law

This privacy policy is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. For users in the United States, applicable US federal and state privacy laws also apply.

Any disputes arising from this policy shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the primary governing jurisdiction.
